Farm Update, March 22, 2018

Well “spring has sprung” are not the first words that come to mind as I watch snowflakes pile up on the deck, however we are moving full steam ahead with the farming and planning our market calendar for our 31st season in business.  This week at the farm we fertilized strawberry plants, prepared onion beds, and surveyed new plots for tomatoes, pumpkins, and sunflowers. If you are thinking about joining, renewing, or upgrading your CSA membership or Home Delivery, now is the time to do so. We will also be back at the stands starting Memorial Day weekend. It’s going to be an exciting season. The farm crew will meet the first week of April to plant onions, prep beds, and construct our new stage for the Strawberry Jam Fest coming up May 19th.

Speaking of our Strawberry Festival, tickets are now on sale. We’ve got a great line up of music and a nice grassy hill to lay out a blanket, stretch out and soak up the sun. We are excited to have Waredaca Brewing Company join us pouring from their vintage brew truck while we harvest 150 lbs of berries for their strawberry tart Berliner Weisse, Cabin 3.

In the greenhouses at Sharp’s Farm we have treated our seeds and are chipping away at our production schedule of tomatoes, greens, and veggies. Starting them in the greenhouse then transplanting to the soil in May will give us a good two month head start. We’ve got a good team getting back into the groove and fresh applications coming to my inbox and I’m looking forward to another round. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
